Spearheaded by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Maritime Safety Service (MSS) in cooperation with Oceanwide Maritime Services Corp. a “MARINA Surveyor’s Training” on the Survey of Hull and Fittings above Waterline (Afloat Survey) was held at Bayview Park Hotel, Manila, on 23-24 July 2018 and 26-27 July 2018, respectively for two batches.
The last organization-wide training on MARINA ship safety inspection sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was conducted in 2004, more than a decade ago. Thus the Surveyor’s Training on Hull and Fittings above Waterline, as part of a series of trainings on Ship Safety Survey, is both timely and necessary, which ensure competency of MARINA surveyors/inspectors in the performance of their duties.
Participated by over 120 MARINA personnel from all its regional offices the training aimed in updating and enhancing the knowledge and skills of MARINA surveyors/inspectors for the efficient performance of their core functions.
The training include identification of relevant regulations to hull and fittings requirements above waterline under SOLAS and national regulations, identification of deficiencies that may be found during surveys/inspections and analyzing possible root causes of these deficiencies, evaluating water tightness seaworthiness, and safety of the ship, and conduct of functional or operational tests during the survey/inspections.
The training was delivered by Oceanwide subject matter experts Engr. Johnny Maghanoy, Engr. Romeo Libago and Capt. Gregory Sevilla with the assistance of CPA-Lawyer Atty. Marlon Baruc.
